David Orr is Director of Music at St George’s Cathedral. He was awarded an organ scholarship to Rhodes University in Grahamstown and followed his B.Mus with a Master’s in organ performance.  He taught music at independent schools in Pietermaritzburg and Hilton in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, with particular responsibility for chapel music and choral training.  Outside of teaching he has been involved with several adult choirs as trainer, conductor, composer and accompanist.  In addition to various organ recitals, he has collaborated in a number of concerts featuring flute, saxophone and trumpet with organ. He joined the Cathedral staff in October 2007.

Treasurer:

Nick Hodson was born in Oxford, England. He has two brothers, Phillip and Patrick. Philip is a retired banker and lives in Johannesburg. Patrick, semi retired, is a church organist in his spare time, lives in Farnham, UK and serves on the Council of the RSCM. His family came to South Africa in 1953 when his father was appointed Dean of Grahamstown Cathedral. He was a chorister at Grahamstown Cathedral. He attended St Andrews Prep and College, Grahamstown 1954 - 1963. He also sang in the College Choir and in sundry musicals etc at school. He attended the University of Cape Town (1964 and 1965) and the Cape Technical College where he was awarded a Diploma in Electrical Engineering. He is married to Judith. He is a regular in Juliet Bass' choir at St Francis Church, Simonstown. He retired in 2002 having worked for African Oxygen Group for 28 years, and, before that, for the City Council.

Bertus Bertram  was born in Pretoria into an Anglican family. His first exposure to Anglican music was in Christ Church Arcadia Pretoria, From there we went to St Paul’s’ and then to St Alban’s Cathedral, where I was one of the youngest choristers and received choral training which laid the basis of my knowledge of church music. In 1973 he moved to Simon’s Town, where his whole family became the choir of St Georges Dockyard church (now part of the Naval Museum) In 1974 he decided to join the evensong choir of St Georges Cathedral, and was welcomed by Dr Barry Smith. He joined the SA Army Band, and stayed in the SA Defence force until 1996. In 2008 he was co-opted onto the committee of the Cape Town Branch of the RSCM after made enquiries regarding the membership notices. The Highlight of his musical career was the RSCM Summer School in Cape Town in January 2009

Grant Brasler started organ lessons at the age of 14 with Garmon Ashby and continued his music studies with Dr Barry Smith at UCT, where he completed his B Mus Hons in 1998. He has also taken lessons with Prof Wim Viljoen. He was awarded the Claude Brown Organ Scholarship for post-matric studies at the Diocesan College (Bishops) in 1993. and was the winner of the Adcock Ingram Music Competition in 1996 at UCT and the Stephanus Zondagh Overseas Organ Scholarship from UNISA in 2000. After being Organ Scholar and then Assistant Organist at St George’s Cathedral from 2004, Grant became the Interim Director of Music during the first half of 2007. He is currently a music teacher, organist and choirmaster at St Cyprian’s School as well as being the Director of Music at St Paul’s Church in Rondebosch. He is married to Sonja, who is also a music teacher and church organist, and they have two young children.
